The Geometry of Us
We talk. God, do we talk. About everything. About the fire, about the fear, about the fragile, tentative thing growing between the three of us. We sit on my roof under the stars, or around Finn’s scarred worktable in his slowly resurrecting studio, and we pick apart the geometry of our hearts. It’s messy, sometimes. Confusing. There are moments of jealousy, of insecurity, of old wounds reopening. But there is also laughter, and honesty, and a deep, abiding affection that seems to grow stronger with each shared vulnerability.
One rainy Sunday, we’re gathered in my living room, a fire crackling in the hearth, the city washed clean outside the window. Finn is sketching in a new notebook, his bandaged hand moving with careful precision. Leo is reading, his head in my lap, my fingers idly combing through his hair. The silence is comfortable, easy, the kind that speaks of deep familiarity.
Finn looks up, his eyes catching mine. “I’ve been thinking,” he says, his voice quiet but clear. “About… about what we’re building here. The three of us.” He sets his sketchbook aside, leaning forward, his elbows on his knees. “I know it’s not traditional. I know it’s complicated. But it feels… right. Real.”
Leo sits up, twisting to look at me, his expression thoughtful. “He’s right, A. This… this works. In a way I didn’t expect. In a way that feels… necessary.”
I look at them both – at Leo, my restless, vibrant partner, and Finn, this artist who has so unexpectedly captured both our hearts – and I feel a wave of emotion so strong it steals my breath. Love, certainly. But also gratitude. And a fierce, protective tenderness that encompasses us all.
“It does,” I say, my voice thick. “It really does.”
The future stretches before us, unwritten, full of unknown variables. Will this new geometry hold? Can we navigate the inevitable challenges, the jealousies, the demands of three hearts beating in imperfect time? I don’t have the answers. But for now, in this moment, with the rain drumming against the windows and the fire warming our skin, it feels possible. It feels like enough.
The geometry of love is an ever-shifting equation, my dear reader. Angles realign, distances recalculate, new variables forever being introduced. But perhaps, just perhaps, it is in the shifting that we find our truest shape. Perhaps it is in the spaces between us, in the connections we forge across the distances, that we discover the most profound architecture of all.
Will it hold? I cannot say for certain. But as I look at Leo and Finn, at the easy affection between them, at the space they have made for me in their orbit, I feel a fragile, persistent hope take root. The equation remains unsolved, the variables still in motion. But for now, in this quiet moment of connection, the answer seems less important than the question itself.
The geometry shifts, recalibrates. A new point glows bright on the graph of us. The future, with all its tangled possibilities, beckons. Will we be brave enough to follow?
