The Ties That Bind
J was silent for a long moment, the only sound Eve’s ragged breathing. Then she felt him move, kneeling behind her. His hands settled on her hips, his fingers digging into her flesh.
"You want to come?" he murmured, his breath hot against her ear. "You want me to let you come?"
"Yes," Eve sobbed, her body trembling. "Please, Sir. I’ll be good. I’ll obey. I’ll—"
"Shhh." J’s hand slid down her stomach, his fingers dipping between her legs. He groaned, low in his throat. "Fucking hell, Eve. You’re soaked."
Eve whimpered, her hips rocking, seeking more of his touch. "Please," she whispered.
J’s fingers slid through her folds, teasing her entrance before circling her clit. Eve cried out, her body jolting, the sensation almost too much after the intensity of the scene.
"Come for me, Eve," J growled, his fingers working her clit, fast and hard. "Come for me now."
The orgasm hit her like a freight train, tearing a scream from her throat. Her body bucked, straining against the ropes, every muscle tensing as pleasure crashed over her, through her, shaking her to her core. It went on and on, J’s fingers relentless, wringing every last shudder from her body.
When it finally faded, Eve sagged, her body going limp in the ropes. She was trembling, sweat cooling on her skin, her breath coming in ragged gasps. She felt wrung out, emptied, every thought, every worry, every piece of her armor stripped away.
J’s hands were gentle as he untied the ropes, easing her arms down, rubbing the circulation back into her wrists. He slid the blindfold off, the sudden light making her blink, her eyes adjusting.
He turned her to face him, his blue eyes intense, searching hers. He cupped her face in his hands, his thumbs stroking her cheeks, wiping away the last of her tears.
"Okay?" he asked, his voice soft.
Eve nodded, her throat tight. She leaned into his touch, her body still trembling. "Yes, Sir."
J gathered her into his arms, lifting her easily. He carried her to the couch, settling her in his lap, her head resting against his chest. Winston padded over, resting his head on her knee with a soft whine.
Eve closed her eyes, listening to the steady thump of J’s heartbeat, feeling the warmth of his body against hers, the soft comfort of Winston’s presence. The ropes were gone, but she still felt held, safe, contained.
She felt, for the first time in a long time, completely and utterly herself.
J’s arms tightened around her, his hand stroking her hair, her back. He didn’t speak, just held her, letting her come down from the intensity of the scene, from the emotional release.
Eve buried her face in his chest, breathing in the warm, spicy scent of his cologne, the musk of his skin. Tears pricked her eyes again, but this time, they weren’t from pain or pleasure. They were from something deeper, something raw and vulnerable.
“It’s okay,” J murmured, his lips brushing her hair. “I’ve got you. You’re safe.”
The words unlocked something inside her. A dam broke, and the tears spilled over, hot and messy. She clung to him, her fingers digging into his shirt, her body shaking with sobs.
J held her through it, his arms a steady, unwavering support. He didn’t shush her, didn’t tell her to stop. He just let her cry, let her break, his presence a silent promise that he wouldn’t let her fall.
When the tears finally slowed, leaving her drained and hollowed out, J eased back slightly, tilting her chin up so he could look at her face. His blue eyes were soft, gentle, but still held that intensity, that unwavering focus that always made her feel seen.
“Talk to me,” he said, his voice low, rough with emotion. “Tell me what’s going on in that head of yours.”
Eve took a shuddering breath, her throat raw from crying. “I...I was scared,” she whispered, the admission feeling like a confession.
“Scared of what?” J’s thumb stroked her cheek, wiping away a stray tear.
“Of losing control.” The words were barely a breath. “Of letting go completely. Of what would happen if I did.”
J nodded slowly, his eyes never leaving hers. “And what do you think would happen?”
Eve looked down, unable to hold his gaze. “That I’d disappear. That I’d lose myself. That I’d become...less.”
“Oh, Eve.” J’s voice was a soft rumble. He cupped her face in both hands, forcing her to meet his eyes. “You could never be less. Not to me. Not ever.” He leaned in, resting his forehead against hers. “Letting go isn’t about losing yourself. It’s about finding the parts of yourself you’ve hidden away. The parts you’ve buried under the armor and the control.”
He pulled back slightly, his hands sliding down to rest on her shoulders. “What you did today, pushing against the ropes, against me...it wasn’t about control. Not really. It was about fear. Fear of being truly seen. Fear of being vulnerable.”
Eve swallowed hard, her eyes burning with fresh tears. “I’m sorry,” she whispered. “I’m so sorry, Sir.”
“I know you are,” J said, his voice gentle. “And I forgive you. But more importantly, you need to forgive yourself.” He squeezed her shoulders lightly. “This life, this dynamic...it’s not about perfection. It’s about growth. About learning. About trusting, even when it’s hard.”
He glanced over at Winston, who was still resting his head on Eve’s knee, his brown eyes watching them with that quiet, knowing intensity he always had. “Winston knows that. He senses it. That’s why he’s always here, always watching. He knows when someone is truly letting go.”
Eve looked down at Winston, a watery smile tugging at her lips. “He does seem to have a sixth sense about it.”
“It’s a mystery,” J said, a hint of a smile in his voice. “One of many.” He looked back at Eve, his expression softening. “But some things aren’t a mystery. Like how I feel about you.”
Eve’s breath caught, her heart stuttering in her chest. “How...how do you feel?”
J’s hands slid up to cradle her face again, his blue eyes locked on hers. “I’m in love with you, Eve Sterling. With your strength, your fire, your courage. With the way you fight, even when you’re scared. With the way you surrender, even when it terrifies you.” He leaned in, his lips a breath away from hers. “I love you. And I’m not going anywhere.”
He kissed her then, slow and deep, pouring every ounce of his feeling into the press of his lips, the stroke of his tongue. Eve melted into him, her arms winding around his neck, her body arching into his. The kiss was a promise, a vow, a healing balm to her raw and aching heart.
When he finally pulled back, they were both breathless, their foreheads resting together, their eyes locked.
“I love you too,” Eve whispered, the words feeling like a revelation, a liberation. “I love you, J Carter.”
He smiled, that slow, cocky curve of his lips that had stolen her breath from the very first moment. “I know,” he said, his voice full of warmth, of certainty.
He settled back on the couch, tucking her against his chest, her head resting over his heart. Winston sighed, his head still on her knee, his presence a warm, comforting weight.
Eve closed her eyes, listening to the steady beat of J’s heart, feeling the warmth of his body against hers, the soft comfort of Winston’s presence. For the first time in a long time, she felt truly at peace. Truly home.
She didn’t know what the future held, what challenges they would face, what obstacles they would have to overcome. But she knew, with a bone-deep certainty, that they would face them together. That J would be there, steady and strong, a safe harbor in any storm.
And that was enough. More than enough.
Eve smiled at the memory, her fingers tracing the smooth wood of her desk. Five years later, and that weekend still felt like a turning point, a pivot that had set her life on a new and unexpected course.
A knock on the door jolted her out of her reverie. She looked up to see J leaning in the doorway, Winston at his heels. The corgi trotted over, resting his head on her knee with a soft whine.
“Ready, love?” J’s blue eyes sparkled with warmth, with anticipation. His familiar cologne, Terre d’Hermès, wrapped around her, a comforting scent that never failed to make her heart skip a beat.
Eve stood, smoothing her hands down her skirt. “Ready.”
She followed J down the hall, Winston padding along beside them. The studio had changed in the years since that first fateful weekend. The converted barn was now their home, the space transformed into a warm, inviting haven. The dungeon area was still there, of course, the hard points and mats a familiar and beloved sight. But now, there was also a cozy living area, a kitchen that smelled constantly of something delicious, a bedroom where they slept tangled together every night.
J led her to the center of the room, to the familiar mats where they had played out so many scenes, so many moments of connection and growth. Winston settled himself by the fireplace with a contented sigh, his brown eyes watchful, knowing.
J turned to face her, his blue eyes locked on hers. He didn’t speak, but he didn’t need to. The love, the trust, the deep and abiding connection between them, it was all there, written in every line of his face, in the gentle curve of his smile.
Eve stepped into his arms, her hands sliding up his chest to twine around his neck. “I love you, James Carter,” she murmured, her voice soft with emotion.
J’s arms tightened around her, his lips brushing her hair. “I love you too, Evelyn Sterling-Carter.” He pulled back slightly, his blue eyes dancing with mischief, with promise. “Now, shall we begin?”
