Moonlight Sonata in Blue and Gold

We spend the next few hours immersed in the project, trading ideas back and forth, building on each other’s melodies and harmonies. Liam’s classical training brings a structure and complexity to the piece, while my jazz background adds a sense of improvisation and swing. We argue good-naturedly over chord progressions and time signatures, but there’s a sense of camaraderie between us, a feeling that we’re creating something truly special.

As the afternoon fades into evening, we take a break, ordering in some takeaway and opening a bottle of wine. We sit on Liam’s couch, our legs tangled together, talking and laughing as we eat.

"I had a great time today," Liam says softly, his hand resting on my knee. "I love working with you."

I smile, leaning into him. "I love working with you too," I say, my voice just as soft. "You’re incredibly talented, Liam. And not just as a musician. You’re a good person, too."

He looks at me, his eyes warm and tender. "So are you," he says, leaning in to kiss me.

The kiss starts out gentle, but it quickly deepens, our tongues sliding together, our hands beginning to wander. Liam’s fingers tangle in my hair, tugging lightly, while my hands slide under his shirt, exploring the warm skin of his back.

"Liam," I whisper against his lips, my voice rough with desire. "I want you."

He pulls back slightly, his eyes dark and intense. "Are you sure?" he asks, his voice low and gravelly.

I nod, my heart pounding in my chest. "I’m sure," I say, sliding into his lap, straddling him. "I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life."

That’s all the encouragement he needs. He stands up suddenly, lifting me with him, and carries me into his bedroom. He sets me down gently on the bed, hovering over me, his eyes locked with mine.

We undress each other slowly, taking our time, savoring each new patch of skin revealed. Liam’s hands are reverent as they slide over my body, tracing the curves of my hips, the swell of my breasts. I shiver under his touch, my body arching into his.

"Liam," I murmur, my voice barely above a whisper. "Please."

He leans down, kissing me deeply, his tongue sliding against mine. At the same time, his hand slips between my legs, his fingers stroking me softly, teasingly. I gasp into his mouth, my hips bucking involuntarily.

"Please," I say again, more urgently this time. "I need you."

"Lay back," Liam says, his voice rough with desire. "Let me take care of you."

I do as he says, laying back against the pillows, my body trembling with anticipation. Liam kneels between my legs, his hands skimming up my thighs, spreading them wider. And then he leans down, his tongue licking up my center in one long, slow stroke.

I cry out, my hands fisting in the sheets, as Liam continues to lick and suck and tease, his tongue swirling around my most sensitive spots. He works me over thoroughly, his mouth hot and wet against me, until I’m writhing beneath him, my breath coming in short, sharp gasps.

"Liam," I pant, my head thrown back, my eyes squeezed shut. "I’m close. So close."

He hums against me, the vibration sending shockwaves through my body. And then he focuses his attention on my clit, sucking it into his mouth, his tongue flicking against it fast and hard.

I come apart with a scream, my body shaking, my vision going white. Liam rides out my orgasm, his mouth never leaving me, until the last aftershocks have faded away.

Then he surges up, kissing me hard, letting me taste myself on his tongue. I can feel him hard against my thigh, thick and pulsing, and I reach down, wrapping my hand around him.

"Leocadia," he groans against my lips, his hips bucking into my touch.

I stroke him slowly, teasingly, until he’s panting and desperate. "Please," he rasps, his eyes wild. "I need to be inside you."

I nod, guiding him to my entrance. He pushes in slowly, inch by inch, until he’s seated deep inside me. We both groan at the feeling, the intense, overwhelming fullness.

Liam starts to move, his hips rolling against mine, his pace slow and steady at first, then gradually picking up speed. I meet him thrust for thrust, my legs wrapped around his waist, my nails digging into his back.

We move together like that for what feels like hours, our bodies perfectly in sync, our breath mingling, our skin slick with sweat. And all the while, our eyes are locked together, conveying more than words ever could.

"I’m close," Liam grits out, his voice rough with exertion. "I’m so close."

I nod, my own release building inside me, coiling tighter and tighter. "Come with me," I whisper, my voice breathless. "Come inside me."

Liam groans, his hips snapping forward, and I feel him pulse inside me, his release triggering my own. We come together, our bodies shaking, our cries mingling in the quiet of the room.

Afterwards, we lay together in a tangle of limbs, our hearts slowly returning to normal. Liam pulls me close, his arms wrapped around me, his face buried in my hair.

"Wow," he whispers, his voice rough and sated. "That was…"

"Amazing," I finish, smiling against his chest. "Earth-shattering. Life-changing."

Liam laughs softly, his breath stirring my hair. "All of the above," he agrees, pressing a kiss to the top of my head.

We lay like that for a long time, just holding each other, basking in the afterglow. And as I drift off to sleep, my head pillowed on Liam’s chest, I can’t help but think that this is just the beginning for us. That this is the start of something truly special.

I wake up the next morning to the sound of my phone ringing. I fumble for it, my eyes still heavy with sleep, and see that it’s my mama calling.

"Hey Mama," I say, my voice still rough with sleep.

"Hey baby," she says, her warm, familiar voice filling my ear. "How’s Dublin treating you?"

"It’s amazing," I say, smiling as I look over at Liam, who’s still sleeping peacefully beside me. "I have so much to tell you."

"I can’t wait to hear all about it," she says. "But that’s not why I’m calling. I wanted to remind you about the family reunion next month. It’s been too long since we’ve all been together."

"I know, Mama," I say, a pang of homesickness hitting me square in the chest. "I’ll be there, I promise."

"Good," she says, her voice satisfied. "And bring that nice Irish boy you’ve been spending all your time with. I want to meet him."

I look over at Liam again, a smile tugging at my lips. "I will, Mama," I say. "I can’t wait for you to meet him."

A month later, Liam and I land in New Orleans, the humid Louisiana air a stark contrast to the cool Dublin climate. I’m nervous about bringing him home to meet my family, but Liam is nothing but supportive, his hand a constant, reassuring presence in mine.

The family reunion is a loud, boisterous affair, filled with food and music and laughter. My family welcomes Liam with open arms, my mama fussing over him, my daddy grilling him about his intentions, my brothers and sisters teasing him good-naturedly. Liam takes it all in stride, his quiet, steady presence a calming influence amidst the chaos.

As the night winds down, Liam and I slip away, walking hand in hand along the banks of the Mississippi River. The moon is full and bright above us, casting a shimmering path on the water.

"It’s beautiful," Liam says softly, his arm wrapped around my waist. "I can see why you love it here."

I nod, leaning into him. "It’s home," I say simply. "But Dublin is starting to feel like home too. Wherever you are, that’s where I want to be."

Liam turns to me, his eyes bright with emotion. "I feel the same way," he says, his voice rough with feeling. "Leocadia, I love you. I want to build a life with you, whether it’s in Dublin or New Orleans or somewhere in between."

I smile, my heart full to bursting. "I love you too, Liam Byrne," I say, pulling him close. "And I can’t wait to build that life with you."

As the first rays of the sun begin to peek over the horizon, painting the sky in shades of pink and gold, Liam and I stand together, our arms around each other, watching the dawn of a new day and the start of our new life together.
