Saturday Morning Soup

Jesse’s smile widened. “I’m glad you like it.” He took a step closer, his hand coming up to brush a stray lock of hair off my forehead. “I just want you to relax and enjoy yourself this weekend. Let me take care of everything.”

I felt a warmth fill my chest at his words. “I will,” I promised, my voice soft.

Jesse leaned in, his mouth touching mine in a soft, sweet kiss. I felt a surge of affection for this man, this kind, generous, patient man who had slowly but surely worn down my walls.

We spent the day exploring the area around the cabin, hiking the nearby trails and enjoying the fresh mountain air. Jesse was attentive and caring, always making sure I had everything I needed.

That night, after a dinner of grilled steaks and roasted vegetables, we sat together on the couch, the fire crackling in the hearth. I leaned against Jesse’s side, my head resting on his shoulder, and felt a sense of peace and contentment that had been missing from my life for too long.

Jesse’s hand rested on my thigh, his thumb moving in a gentle caress. “This is nice,” he said, his voice low. “Just being here with you.”

I nodded, my throat tight. “Yeah, it is.”

We sat without speaking for a while, the only sound the crackle of the fire and the soft rush of our breath. I felt a sense of intimacy in the quiet, a closeness that had nothing to do with words.

Jesse shifted beside me, his hand coming up to cup my cheek. He turned my face towards his, his expression soft and open. “Micah,” he whispered, his voice catching.

“Yeah?” I whispered back, my pulse quickening.

Jesse’s gaze dropped to my mouth, lingering there for a long moment. My breath hitched, anticipation thrumming through my veins.

He leaned in slowly, giving me plenty of time to pull away. But I didn’t want to pull away. I wanted this, wanted him, more than I’d wanted anything in a long time.

Our lips met, soft and sweet, a bare brush of skin on skin. A current shot through me, a rush of heat that pooled low in my belly.

Jesse’s hand tightened on my cheek, his thumb grazing my cheekbone in a gentle caress. I leaned into the touch, savoring the warmth of his skin against mine.

Our mouths moved together in a slow, sensual dance. I felt my fingers tangle in the soft fabric of his t-shirt, pulling him closer, needing more of his warmth, his strength.

We kissed for a long time, the world narrowing down to just the two of us, to the press of his lips against mine, the feel of his body against my own. It was perfect, a moment of pure connection and desire.

When we finally broke apart, we were both breathing hard, our foreheads resting together. I could feel the warmth of his breath against my skin, the scent of woodsmoke and pine mixing in the air.

“Wow,” Jesse whispered, his voice thick. “That was…”

“Yeah,” I agreed, my own voice just as rough. “It really was.”

Jesse smiled, his thumb moving over my bottom lip in a gentle caress. “I’ve been wanting to do that for a long time.”

I felt a warmth fill my chest at his words. “Me too,” I admitted, my voice soft. “I just didn’t know if I was ready.”

Jesse’s smile softened. “I know. And I’m glad you’re ready now.”

He leaned in, brushing his lips over mine in one more soft, sweet kiss. “Come on,” he said, pulling back with a smile. “Let’s get some sleep. We’ve got a big day tomorrow.”

I nodded, my hand finding his as we stood up from the couch. I followed him into the bedroom, my heart full and my mind at ease.

As I drifted off to sleep that night, Jesse’s arm wrapped around my waist, I knew that I was falling for him, falling hard and fast. And for the first time in a long time, I wasn’t afraid.

I just hoped I was brave enough to see it through.

I woke the next morning to the smell of coffee and something sweet baking in the oven. I sat up, rubbing the sleep from my eyes, and looked around the unfamiliar room.

Jesse was nowhere to be seen, but I could hear him moving around in the kitchen, the low murmur of his voice reaching my ears. I smiled, a warmth filling my chest at the sound.

I got out of bed, pulling on a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt before padding out into the main room. Jesse was standing at the stove, flipping pancakes with one hand while he talked on the phone with the other.

He looked up as I approached, his smile widening. “Hey, sleepyhead. I’ll be off in a sec.” He paused, listening to whoever was on the other end of the line. “Yeah, okay. Thanks again for letting us use the cabin. We’ll make sure to clean up before we leave.”

I sat down at the small kitchen table, watching as Jesse finished his call and turned back to the pancakes. “Smells good,” I said, my voice still rough with sleep.

Jesse grinned, sliding a stack of pancakes onto a plate and setting it down in front of me. “I aim to please.” He poured me a cup of coffee, adding just the right amount of cream and sugar, and set it down next to the plate.

I took a sip, sighing in contentment. “Perfect. Thanks.”

Jesse smiled, leaning in to brush a quick kiss against my temple. “Of course. Now eat up. We’ve got a big day ahead of us.”

I raised an eyebrow, cutting into the fluffy pancakes with my fork. “We do?”

Jesse nodded, his eyes bright with excitement. “Yep. I’ve got all kinds of plans for us.”

I laughed, shaking my head. “Of course you do.” I took a bite of pancake, the sweet, fluffy texture melting on my tongue. “These are amazing.”

Jesse grinned, looking pleased with himself. “I’m glad you like them.”

We spent the day exploring the woods around the cabin, hiking the trails and enjoying the fresh mountain air. Jesse was attentive and caring, always making sure I had everything I needed.

As the sun began to set, we made our way back to the cabin, our legs tired but our spirits high. Jesse started a fire in the fireplace while I got cleaned up, the warmth of the flames filling the small space.

We spent the evening curled up together on the couch, talking and laughing, our bodies pressed close together. I felt a sense of contentment, of rightness, that had been missing from my life for too long.

As the weeks passed, Jesse and I settled into a comfortable routine. We spent our Saturday mornings at the dog park with Scout and Sunny, sipping coffee and watching our dogs play. We went climbing together every Tuesday and Thursday, pushing each other to reach new heights. And we spent quiet evenings at home, cooking dinner together and talking about our days.

Jesse’s consistent devotion began to chip away at my cynicism. He was always there when I needed him, always ready with a smile or a kind word. He remembered the little things, like my favorite brand of coffee or the way I liked my eggs cooked in the morning.

I found myself looking forward to our time together, craving Jesse’s warm presence. He made me feel seen, understood, in a way no one else ever had.

One evening, as we were sitting on my couch watching a movie, I felt a sudden surge of emotion wash over me. I looked at Jesse, at the strong lines of his profile, the way his hair fell over his forehead, and felt a surge of affection so strong it almost took my breath away.

He must have felt me staring, because he turned to face me, his expression soft and curious. “What?” he asked, his voice low.

I shook my head, a smile lifting the corners of my mouth. “Nothing. I’m just happy. Really happy.”

Jesse’s smile widened, his hand reaching out to take mine. “I’m happy too, Micah. Really happy.”

I squeezed his hand, a silent thank you for everything he’d brought into my life. “I love you, Jesse,” I said, the words tumbling out before I could stop them.

Jesse’s eyes widened, his grip on my hand tightening. "I love you too, Micah," he whispered, his voice strained with emotion. “So much.”

He leaned in, his mouth touching mine in a soft, sweet kiss. I felt a warmth fill my chest, a sense of peace and contentment that had been missing from my life for too long.

As we broke apart, I knew that I was exactly where I was meant to be. With Jesse, I had found a home, a safe haven from the storms of the world.
