The Last Weekend: A Confession

River shifted beside Maya, their hand coming to rest on Jax's shoulder beneath the water. Their thumb traced idle circles on his skin, a touch that was both comforting and charged. Jax stiffened for a moment, his gaze snapping to River's face, but he didn't pull away. His eyes were wide, uncertain, but there was a flicker of something else there—something like longing.

Maya watched them, her heart pounding a little too hard against her ribs. The desert air felt thick suddenly, heavy with unspoken things. With possibilities. She could feel the heat of Leo's gaze on her skin, the weight of River's touch on Jax's shoulder, the way Jax's eyes darted between them all, a deer caught in headlights.

"Remember that time," Leo said suddenly, his voice rough around the edges, "sophomore year, when we all got stupid drunk and ended up in that giant inflatable pool in Maya's backyard?"

Maya laughed, the sound a little too bright. "And River tried to do a handstand and flipped the whole thing over?"

River groaned, burying their face in their hands. "I thought you'd all forgotten about that."

"Never," Jax said softly, a rare smile tugging at his lips. "You were covered in mud. It was epic."

The memory hung between them, a reminder of simpler times, of the easy intimacy they'd always shared. But it was different now. They were different. The air crackled with it.

Maya's eyes met Leo's across the tub, a silent conversation passing between them. A question. A challenge. A dare.

He held her gaze, his lips curving into a slow, deliberate smile. A smile that promised trouble. That promised everything.

The desert night stretched out around them, vast and silent, holding its breath. Waiting.

The air inside the villa was cool after the humid heat of the hot tub, raising goosebumps on Maya's skin as she padded across the tile floor. Her mind raced, her pulse thrumming with the weight of what she was about to do. She could feel the others behind her, their presence a tangible thing—the heat of Leo's gaze, the quiet solidity of River, the nervous energy that seemed to crackle around Jax like static.

She led them into the living room, the space dimly lit by a single floor lamp that cast long shadows across the sleek furniture. The desert stretched out beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows, vast and silent, as if holding its breath. Maya turned to face them, her bare feet sinking into the plush area rug. "We need to talk," she said, her voice steady despite the flutter of nerves in her stomach.

Leo raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing at the corners of his mouth. "That sounds ominous." He sank onto the sofa, his damp hair leaving a dark spot on the pale fabric. "What's up, Maya? Wedding jitters finally hitting?"

Maya took a deep breath, her eyes meeting each of theirs in turn—Leo's dark and knowing, River's observant and calm, Jax's wide and uncertain. "Not jitters," she said softly. "Not exactly." She hesitated, searching for the words. "It's just...this weekend. Being here with all of you. It's made me realize something."

River moved to sit beside Leo, their dark eyes fixed on Maya's face. "What is it, Maya?" they asked, their voice a low murmur. "You know you can tell us anything."

Maya nodded, swallowing hard. "I know. That's why I need to say this." She took another steadying breath, the words tumbling out in a rush. "Before I get married, before everything changes...I want to explore. With you. All of you." She held up a hand, stopping Leo's immediate grin. "I don't mean just fooling around. I mean...intentionally. Together."

The room went silent, the only sound the faint hum of the air conditioning. Maya could feel her heart pounding against her ribs, her palms slick with nervous sweat. She forced herself to hold their gazes, to not look away.

Leo broke the silence first, his grin widening. "Well, it's about fucking time," he said, leaning forward, his elbows resting on his knees. "I've been waiting for you to admit that for years, Maya."

Maya rolled her eyes, a laugh bubbling up despite herself. "Of course you have." She turned to River, her voice softening. "River?"

River was quiet for a moment, their eyes searching Maya's face. "I'm in," they said finally, reaching out to take Maya's hand, their fingers warm and steady. "But we need to talk about it first. Really talk. About boundaries. About what we each want." They squeezed Maya's hand, a silent reassurance. "This is...it's a big deal. We need to be careful with each other."

Maya nodded, relief washing over her. "I agree. Completely." She turned to Jax, who had been silent throughout, his eyes darting between them all. "Jax?" she asked softly. "What do you think?"

Jax swallowed hard, his hands twisting together in his lap. "I...I don't know," he said, his voice rough. "I mean...I want to. God, I want to." He looked up, meeting Maya's eyes, then River's, then Leo's. "But...are we sure? This could change everything. What if it ruins what we have?"

Leo stood, moving to sit beside Jax on the loveseat. "Jax," he said, his voice uncharacteristically serious. "Look at me." He waited until Jax met his gaze, his hazel eyes wide and vulnerable. "Nothing could ruin what we have. We've been through too much together. But this...this could make it even better. We just have to be honest. With each other. With ourselves."

Jax held Leo's gaze for a long moment, something unspoken passing between them. Then he nodded slowly, a shaky breath escaping his lips. "Okay," he whispered. "Okay. I'm in."

Maya felt a wave of warmth wash over her, a mix of relief and anticipation and pure, unadulterated affection. She looked at each of them in turn—Leo, confident and eager; River, steady and grounding; Jax, nervous but willing. Her best friends. Her chosen family. "So we're really doing this?" she asked, a smile tugging at her lips.

Leo grinned, his hand coming to rest on Jax's knee. "We're really doing this."

River stood, moving to stand beside Maya. "But first," they said, their voice firm but kind, "we talk. About everything. No secrets. No assumptions." They looked at each of them in turn, their dark eyes serious. "Agreed?"

Maya nodded, her hand finding River's. "Agreed."

River settled cross-legged on the rug, patting the space beside them. "Come on, then. Let's get comfortable." They shot Maya a wry look. "This might take a while."

Maya rolled her eyes but sank down beside them, tucking her legs beneath her. "Hey, I'm not complaining." She leaned into River slightly, their shoulder warm and solid against hers. "This was my idea, remember?"

"Believe me, I remember," River murmured, their voice dry. They turned to Leo and Jax, who were still on the loveseat, Leo's hand resting possessively on Jax's knee. "You two. On the floor. No hiding."

Leo groaned dramatically, but he stood, tugging Jax up with him. "So demanding, River." He plopped down on Maya's other side, close enough that their thighs brushed. Jax hesitated before sinking down beside Leo, his posture stiff, his eyes darting nervously between them all.

River took a deep breath, their dark eyes serious as they looked around the circle. "Okay. So. We're all in. But we need to be clear about what that means." They focused on Maya first. "Maya. You said you want to explore. What does that look like for you? What are you hoping for?"

Maya felt her cheeks warm, but she kept her voice steady. "I...I want to feel close to you. All of you. I want to know what it's like to be with you like that." She bit her lip, choosing her words carefully. "I don't want to hold back. Not this weekend."

Leo made a low, approving sound beside her, his hand finding hers and squeezing. "Fuck yes."

River shot him a quelling look before turning back to Maya. "Okay. And what are your limits? What's off the table?"

Maya thought for a moment. "No anal. Not for me. And...I don't want to be the only focus. I want us all to...share. Equally." She looked around at them, her voice softening. "I want us all to feel good. Together."

River nodded, a small smile playing at their lips. "Good. That's good." They turned to Leo. "Leo. Your turn. What do you want out of this?"

Leo grinned, stretching languidly. "Oh, I want everything. Every inch. Every hole. Every—"

"Leo," River cut in, their voice sharp but amused. "Behave. Specifics, please."

Leo rolled his eyes, but his grin softened into something more genuine. "Fine. I want to touch and taste every part of you. All of you." His eyes lingered on Maya, then Jax, then River. "I want to make you all feel good. However that looks." He paused, his voice turning serious. "But I need you to tell me if I cross a line. I never want to hurt any of you."
