The Monaco Scandal
I didn’t let him finish. I couldn’t. I stepped forward, closing the last bit of distance between us, and wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling his head down to mine.
I kissed him with everything I had. With all the love and longing and desperation that had been building inside me since the moment he’d walked out of my life. I kissed him like it was the last thing I would ever do. Like it was the only thing that mattered.
For a long moment, he didn’t respond. He stood frozen in my arms, his body rigid and unyielding. Then, slowly, almost imperceptibly, he began to soften. His lips parted under mine, his arms came up to wrap around my waist, pulling me closer.
I sighed into his mouth, relief and joy flooding through me. He was mine. He was still mine.
We kissed for what felt like hours, lost in each other, the rest of the world falling away. When we finally broke apart, we were both breathless and flushed, our bodies plastered together from chest to knee.
“I love you,” I whispered, resting my forehead against his. “I love you so much.”
He closed his eyes, leaning into my touch. “I love you too,” he said, his voice rough with emotion. “God help me, I love you too.”
I smiled, my heart soaring. “Then let me make it up to you,” I murmured, trailing my lips down the side of his neck. “Let me show you how much I love you.”
He shivered, his hands tightening on my hips. “Alessia…” he said warningly, but there was no heat in it. No conviction.
“Please,” I whispered, my hands slipping under the waistband of his shorts, stroking the smooth, warm skin of his lower back. “I need you, Matteo. I need you so much.”
He groaned, his head falling back as I touched him. “We shouldn’t,” he muttered, even as his hips rocked into mine. “It’s not right. Not after everything…”
“Shh,” I murmured, silencing him with another deep, drugging kiss. “Let me take care of you. Let me love you.”
He surrendered with a groan, his arms tightening around me as he lifted me off my feet, carrying me into the boat’s small cabin and laying me down on the narrow bunk.
We made love with a desperation that bordered on madness, our bodies coming together with a force that left us both breathless and trembling. It was rough and tender and utterly devastating, a meeting of souls as much as bodies.
I clung to him, my nails digging into his back as he moved inside me, his thickness filling me, stretching me, completing me. He felt like home. Like everything I’d ever wanted. Like everything I’d ever need.
“Matteo,” I gasped, my head thrashing on the pillow as he thrust into me again and again, each movement sending sparks of pleasure shooting through my veins. “Oh god, Matteo, yes…”
He silenced me with a kiss, his tongue stroking deep into my mouth as his hips snapped against mine. “I’ve got you,” he murmured against my lips. “I’ve got you, baby. I’m never letting you go.”
I came apart in his arms, my body shattering into a million pieces as pleasure crashed over me in wave after wave. He followed a moment later, his body stiffening as he poured himself inside me, his release triggering another, smaller orgasm that left me limp and sated in his arms.
We lay together for a long time afterward, our bodies still joined, our hearts beating in sync. I trailed my fingers up and down his back, savoring the feel of his skin, the warmth of his body, the sheer, unadulterated joy of having him back in my arms.
“I love you,” I whispered, pressing a kiss to his shoulder. “I love you so much.”
He smiled, his eyes fluttering open to meet mine. “I love you too,” he said, his voice soft and warm. “More than anything.”
I smiled back, my heart so full it felt like it might burst. “Promise me something,” I murmured, stroking his cheek with my fingertips.
“Anything,” he said, turning his head to press a kiss to my palm.
“Promise me we’ll always be this happy,” I said. “Promise me we’ll always be this in love.”
He leaned down, brushing his lips against mine. “I promise,” he whispered. “No matter what happens, no matter where life takes us, I will always love you. I will always be yours.”
I sighed, my eyes drifting closed as I snuggled closer to him. “Forever,” I murmured.
“Forever,” he agreed, his arms tightening around me.
And in that moment, I believed him. Believed that nothing could ever come between us again. Believed that our love was strong enough to withstand anything.
I should have known better. I should have known that the world would never let us be that happy. That our forever was never meant to last.
I should have known better. I should have known that the world would never let us be that happy. That our forever was never meant to last.
But for a while, it seemed like it might. For a while, it seemed like we might actually get our happily ever after.
We spent the next few weeks in a blissful bubble, hidden away from the world on Matteo’s boat. We made love, we talked, we dreamed. We rebuilt the trust that had been shattered by my lies.
And then, one morning, I woke to find Matteo sitting on the edge of the bunk, fully dressed, his expression serious.
“What’s wrong?” I asked, sitting up, clutching the sheet to my chest.
He turned to look at me, his eyes dark and unreadable. “We can’t stay here forever,” he said. “As much as I wish we could.”
I felt a pang of disappointment, but I nodded. “I know,” I said. “The real world is still out there. Waiting for us.”
He nodded, reaching out to take my hand. “We need to face it,” he said. “Together. On our own terms.”
I squeezed his hand, drawing strength from his touch. “Okay,” I said. “What do you have in mind?”
He took a deep breath. “The Monaco Yacht Club gala,” he said. “It’s next week. Everyone will be there. The press. The tabloids. The whole world.”
I stared at him, my heart pounding. “You want to go to the gala?” I asked. “Together?”
He nodded. “I want to show them that we’re not hiding anymore,” he said. “That we’re not ashamed. That we’re in love, and nothing they can say or do can change that.”
I smiled, my heart swelling with love and pride. “Okay,” I said. “Let’s do it.”
The next week passed in a whirlwind of preparations. I had a gown to buy, a speech to write, a million little details to attend to. But through it all, Matteo was by my side, his presence a constant comfort and support.
The night of the gala arrived all too soon. I stood in front of the mirror in my penthouse bedroom, my heart pounding as I took in my reflection. The gown I’d chosen was a simple sheath of ivory silk, elegant and understated. My hair was swept up into a sleek chignon, my makeup minimal and natural. The only jewelry I wore was my signature pearl necklace, the one Matteo had given me all those months ago.
“You look beautiful,” Matteo said, appearing behind me in the mirror. He was dressed in a classic black tuxedo, his hair slicked back from his face, his eyes gleaming with appreciation.
I turned to face him, my heart in my throat. “You don’t look so bad yourself,” I said, my voice trembling slightly.
He smiled, taking my hand and lifting it to his lips. “Ready?” he asked, his breath warm against my skin.
I nodded, squeezing his hand. “Ready,” I said.
We arrived at the gala hand in hand, our heads held high. The press went wild as soon as we stepped out of the car, the flashbulbs blinding, the questions deafening.
“Alessia! Over here!” “Matteo! How does it feel to be dating a billionaire?” “Are the rumors true? Are you two engaged?”
We ignored them all, smiling and waving as we made our way inside. The ballroom was packed with Monaco’s elite, all dressed to the nines and buzzing with excitement.
We were the talk of the town, the scandal of the century. And we were about to give them even more to talk about.
As we moved through the crowd, I could feel the eyes on us, the whispers, the speculation. But with Matteo by my side, I felt invincible. Untouchable.
We spent the next few hours mingling, dancing, playing the role of the happy couple. And we were happy. Blissfully, deliriously happy.
But the real moment of truth came later, when the president of the yacht club stepped up to the podium to make a speech.
