The Quiet of Knots and Need

*There you go, baby. I’ve got you.* I press a kiss to the top of their head, my hand stroking slow, soothing circles on their back. “Just rest now, baby,” I murmur, my voice a low rumble in the quiet room. “I’ve got you. You’re safe. You’re loved.”

Morgan nestles closer, their arm draping over my waist, their leg tangling with mine. “Mmm,” they hum, their voice soft and sleepy. “Ri. ‘M good. So good.”

*I know, baby. I know.* I hold them close, savoring their warmth, their weight against me, the slow, even sound of their breath. *You are. You’re so, so good. And I’m so lucky to have you. To be yours.* I press another kiss to their hair, my eyes fluttering closed. *Rest, baby. I’ve got you. I’ll always have you.*

I don’t know how long we lie there, just breathing together, Morgan’s weight a warm, perfect comfort against my side. But slowly, slowly, I feel them start to stir, their head lifting from my chest, their eyes finding mine in the low light filtering in from the hall.

“Hey,” they murmur, their voice still soft and sleepy but clearer now, more present. “You awake?”

*For you, baby? Always.* I smile, my hand coming up to brush their messy hair back from their face. “Yeah, baby. I’m here.” I shift slightly, rolling onto my side to face them more fully. “How you doing? You feeling okay?”

Morgan takes a slow, deep breath, their chest rising and falling against mine. “Yeah,” they say, their voice a little rough but clear. “I’m… I’m good.” They smile, a soft, sated thing that lights up their whole face. “Really good. That was… wow.”

*I know, baby. I know.* I lean in, brushing my lips over theirs, a soft, lingering touch. “You were incredible, baby. So strong. So brave. So fucking beautiful.”

Morgan blushes, a soft pink flush rising on their cheeks, their eyes dropping shyly. “Ri,” they mumble, a hint of their usual sass creeping into their voice. “Charmer.”

*Only for you, baby. Always for you.* I grin, my heart feeling too big for my chest. “How about we get up, head to the living room? Get some water, maybe a snack? Talk a little?”

Morgan nods, their hand coming up to rest on my cheek, their thumb stroking over my stubble. “Yeah, okay. That sounds good.”

I help them out of bed, wrapping them in a big, fluffy blanket and leading them down the hall to the living room. The house is quiet around us, the late hour wrapping us in a soft, intimate cocoon. I settle Morgan on the couch, tucking the blanket around them, and head into the kitchen to grab some water and a couple of protein bars.

“Here you go, baby,” I murmur, handing them their water and a bar as I settle beside them, my arm going around their shoulders, pulling them into my side. “Drink up. You need to hydrate.”

Morgan takes a long drink, their throat working as they swallow, and then sets the bottle aside, already halfway through their protein bar. “Thanks, Ri,” they say around a bite, their voice still a little rough. “This is perfect.”

*Good, baby. That’s all I want. For you to feel good. To be taken care of.* I take a sip of my own water, my eyes on Morgan’s face, watching for any sign of discomfort or distress. “So… you want to talk about it? About the scene? What worked for you, what didn’t?”

Morgan nods, setting their empty wrapper aside and snuggling closer into my side, their head resting on my shoulder. “Yeah, I’d like that.” They take a breath, their fingers toying with the edge of the blanket. “I really liked the rope. The way you tied me, the way it felt… it was intense, but in a good way. Like I was held, you know? Safe.”

*Fuck, baby. You have no idea how much that means to me.* I press a kiss to the top of their head, my heart swelling in my chest. “I’m glad, baby. That’s what I wanted. To make you feel safe. To give you what you needed.”

“It did,” Morgan says, their voice soft but sure. “It really did.” They’re quiet for a moment, thinking. “And the discipline… I know I pushed, and I’m sorry about that. I just… I needed to feel it, you know? To know you were in control. That you wouldn’t let me get away with anything.”

*Oh, baby. I know. I know exactly what you mean.* I tighten my arm around them, pulling them closer. “You don’t have to apologize, baby. That’s what this is for. To let you push, to let you test, to let you find your edges. And to know that I’ll be there to catch you when you do.”

Morgan nods, their body relaxing further into mine. “I know. And I trust you. More than anyone.” They tip their head back, their eyes finding mine. “I felt… connected. To you. Like it was just us, in this little world we made. Like nothing else mattered.”

*Fuck, baby. Me too. Me fucking too.* I lean down, capturing their lips in a soft, sweet kiss. “It was, baby. It is. Just us. Always.”

We sit like that for a long while, just talking, debriefing, our voices low and easy in the quiet of the house. Morgan’s body grows heavier against mine as the adrenaline wears off, their eyes starting to droop, their words coming slower and sleepier. I smile, my heart full, and press a kiss to the top of their head.

“Come on, baby,” I murmur, my voice a low rumble in the stillness. “Let’s get you back to bed. You’re about to pass out on me.”

Morgan blinks up at me, their eyes hazy and soft. “Hmm? No, I’m… I’m good, Ri. Just… comfy.”

*Yeah, baby. I can see that.* I chuckle, the sound warm and fond, and stand, lifting Morgan into my arms. They mumble a protest, but it’s half-hearted at best, their head already dropping back onto my shoulder, their eyes fluttering closed.

I carry them back to our bedroom, settling them gently on the bed and crawling in beside them. They curl into me immediately, their head pillowed on my chest, their arm draped over my waist, their leg tangling with mine. I pull the covers up over us, wrapping us in a warm, cozy cocoon, and press a kiss to the top of their head.

*Sleep, baby,* I think, my heart full to bursting. *I’ve got you. I’ll always have you.*

I don’t know how long we sleep, but when I wake, the sky outside the window is just starting to lighten, the black of night giving way to the soft, pearly grey of pre-dawn. Morgan is still asleep beside me, their breathing slow and even, their body warm and heavy against mine.

*There’s my baby,* I think, my heart swelling with warmth, with love. *So beautiful. So peaceful. All mine.*

I lie there for a long while, just watching them sleep, savoring the feel of them in my arms, the quiet intimacy of the moment. The house is still around us, the only sound the soft whisper of Morgan’s breath, the slow, steady beat of their heart against mine.

Slowly, carefully, I ease out from under Morgan, settling them back onto the pillows, tucking the covers around them. I press a soft kiss to their forehead, my lips lingering on their warm skin. “Be right back, baby,” I murmur, even though I know they’re asleep. “Just gonna get some water.”

I pad out to the kitchen, the cool tile floor a shock under my bare feet. I grab a couple of water bottles from the fridge, twisting the cap off one and taking a long drink, the cold liquid soothing on my throat, still a little raw from last night’s exertions.

I stand there for a moment, just breathing, the events of the night playing over in my mind. The trust Morgan showed me, the way they let me in, let me take care of them… it still blows me away, every single time. *Fuck, I’m a lucky bastard,* I think, my heart full. *So fucking lucky.*

I twist the cap back onto the water bottle and head back down the hall, pausing in the doorway to the living room. The big picture window looks out over the front yard, the sky beyond just starting to lighten, the stars fading one by one as the sun creeps closer to the horizon.

*Come on, baby,* I think, a soft smile tugging at my lips. *Let’s go watch the sunrise.*

I set the water bottles down on the end table and cross to the bed, easing down onto the edge of the mattress beside Morgan. “Hey, baby,” I murmur, my voice low and soft, my hand coming up to brush their messy hair back from their face. “Wake up, sweetheart. I’ve got a surprise for you.”
