The Quiet of Knots and Need
Morgan stirs, their eyes blinking slowly open, hazy and soft with sleep. “Hmm? Ri?” they mumble, their voice rough and warm. “What… what’s wrong? What’s going on?”
“Nothing’s wrong, baby,” I say, my voice a low, soothing rumble. “Everything’s perfect. Come on, let’s go watch the sun come up.”
Morgan blinks up at me, their eyes slowly focusing, a soft smile tugging at their lips. “The sunrise?” they say, their voice still rough but clearer now, warmer. “Really?”
“Really, baby,” I say, leaning down to brush a soft kiss over their lips. “Come on. I’ve got blankets, water… everything we need.”
Morgan smiles, a soft, sweet thing that lights up their whole face, and nods, pushing themselves up, rubbing the sleep from their eyes. “Okay, Ri,” they say, their voice warm and fond. “Lead the way.”
I help them out of bed, wrapping them in a big, fluffy blanket, and lead them down the hall to the living room. I settle them on the couch, right in front of the big picture window, tucking the blanket around them, and grab the water bottles from the end table. I hand one to Morgan, twisting the cap off my own and taking a long drink before settling beside them, my arm going around their shoulders, pulling them into my side.
Outside, the sky is getting lighter by the minute, the black of night giving way to shades of deep blue and soft grey, the stars fading slowly away. The street is quiet, the houses around us still dark, the world holding its breath as it waits for the sun.
*I love this time of day,* I think, my eyes on the horizon, my heart full. *So quiet. So peaceful. Like the whole world is ours.*
Morgan nestles closer, their head resting against my shoulder, the blanket pulled up around their chin. “It’s beautiful, Ri,” they murmur, their voice soft and reverent. “Thank you for waking me up.”
*Always, baby.* I turn my head, pressing a kiss to the top of their head, breathing in the warm, sleepy scent of them. “I knew you’d want to see it.”
We sit like that for a long while, just watching as the sky lightens, the colors shifting from grey to pink to gold. The sun creeps closer to the horizon, painting the clouds in shades of orange and red, the light slowly filling the room, warm and soft and golden.
“It’s like the world is being born again,” Morgan murmurs, their voice hushed and awed, their eyes fixed on the horizon. “Like anything is possible.”
*It is, baby.* I tighten my arm around them, pulling them closer. “With you? Anything is possible. Everything.”
Morgan turns their head, their eyes finding mine, soft and warm and full of so much love it takes my breath away. “I love you, Ri,” they say, their voice sure and strong. “More than anything. More than everything.”
*Fuck, baby.* I lean in, capturing their lips in a soft, sweet kiss, pouring all my love, all my gratitude, all my devotion into the press of my mouth against theirs. “I love you too, Morgan,” I murmur against their lips. “More than I ever thought it was possible to love anyone. You’re my everything.”
We kiss again, slow and deep, the rising sun warm on our skin, the world around us quiet and still, as if it knows how perfect this moment is, how precious, how rare.
*This,* I think, my heart so full it feels like it might burst. *This is what it’s all about. This connection. This love. This perfect, perfect thing we have.*
I don’t know how long we sit there, just holding each other, watching as the sun climbs higher into the sky, the world waking up around us. But in that moment, in that perfect, quiet intimacy, I know that whatever happens, whatever comes next, we’ll face it together, Morgan and me, bound by something stronger than rope, deeper than kink, more profound than anything I’ve ever known.
“Come on, baby,” I murmur, my voice a low rumble. “Let’s get some more rest, okay? We’ve had a big night.”
Morgan nods against my shoulder, warm and pliant. “Okay, Ri. Take me to bed.”
I lift them into my arms, blanket and all. They curl into me as I carry them down the hall. Laying them gently on the bed, I crawl in beside them, pulling the covers up.
Morgan nestles close, head on my chest. I press a kiss to their hair, stroking slow circles on their back. *Sleep now. I’ve got you. Always.*
When I wake again, the sun is high, the room golden. Morgan sleeps peacefully beside me. I watch them, savoring their weight in my arms. The world outside fades; all that matters is this, us, the love we share.
*Thank you,* I think, heart swelling. *For this. For everything. For you, Morgan. Always you.*
Closing my eyes, I let the sun’s warmth and Morgan’s body lull me back into a light doze. Content and at peace in a way only Morgan can give me.
