The Quiet of Knots and Need
We fall into a comfortable silence, the quiet sizzle of the pancakes the only sound. I lose myself in the simple rhythm of cooking, in the familiar motions, in the warmth of the kitchen. Morgan watches me, their presence a comforting weight at my back.
*This is it,* I think, a warm contentment settling in my chest. *This is home. This is happiness.* I flip the last of the pancakes onto a plate, turning to face Morgan. “Breakfast is served,” I announce, setting the plate in front of them with a flourish.
Morgan grins, picking up their fork. “You’re the best, Ri,” they say, their voice warm. “I love you.”
“I love you too, baby,” I say, leaning in to press a soft kiss to their forehead. “Now eat your pancakes before they get cold.”
Morgan sticks their tongue out at me, but they dig in with gusto. I watch them for a moment, a fond smile on my face. *Yeah. This is it. This is everything.* I turn back to the stove, pouring another batch of batter. *And I wouldn’t have it any other way.*
I turn back to the stove, pouring another batch of batter. *And I wouldn’t have it any other way.*
I finish cooking, stacking the last of the pancakes on the plate. I carry them over to the counter, sliding onto the stool next to Morgan. They’ve already demolished half the stack, their plate sticky with syrup. I shake my head, fighting a smile. “Hungry, were you?”
Morgan looks up, a smear of syrup on their chin. “Starving,” they confirm, licking their lips. “You fucked the brains right out of me last night. I need to refuel.”
I snort, reaching over to wipe the syrup away with my thumb. “Brat,” I say fondly, popping the digit into my mouth. “But I guess you earned it.”
Morgan grins, pleased with themselves. “Damn right I did.” They fork another bite, chewing happily. “These are amazing, Ri. You’ve outdone yourself.”
“I try,” I say, picking up my own fork. I dig in, the sweet, fluffy pancakes the perfect comfort food after a long night and a lazy morning. We eat in companionable silence, the quiet of the house wrapping around us like a warm blanket. It’s nice, this ease between us, this simple domesticity. After the intensity of last night, it’s exactly what we need.
As we finish up, Morgan pushes their plate away with a contented sigh. “Okay, I’m stuffed,” they announce, leaning back in their stool. “That was perfect.”
I nod, setting down my own fork. “Good. You need anything else? More coffee? Juice?”
Morgan shakes their head. “I’m good. Just… sit with me for a while?” They hold out their hand, wiggling their fingers at me.
I take it without hesitation, weaving our fingers together. “Always, baby,” I say, bringing their hand to my lips for a quick kiss.
We sit there for a few minutes, just holding hands, the quiet of the morning settling over us. Morgan’s thumb traces circles on the back of my hand, the touch warm and familiar. I let my eyes drift closed, savoring the simple comfort of their presence.
*This. This is what it’s all about.*
After a while, Morgan stirs, shifting on their stool. “Ri?” they say, their voice soft.
“Hm?” I hum, not opening my eyes.
“Last night was… a lot,” they say, their voice tentative. “I’m okay, I think. I know we talked about it a little this morning, but… I just wanted to say it again. That I’m okay. That I’m glad we did that.”
I open my eyes, meeting their gaze. “I’m glad too, baby,” I say, my voice just as soft. “It was intense, but it was good. It was real.”
Morgan nods, a small smile playing on their lips. “It felt real,” they agree. “Like… like we went somewhere together. Somewhere deep.”
“We did,” I confirm, giving their hand a gentle squeeze. “That’s the beauty of what we do. It lets us go to those deep places, to explore those parts of ourselves. To be vulnerable, and to be held in that vulnerability.”
“Yeah,” Morgan breathes, their eyes a little wide. “That’s exactly it.” They’re quiet for a moment, their gaze turning inward. “I felt… stripped bare last night. Like you saw all of me, every hidden part.” They meet my eyes again, their expression raw. “It was terrifying. And exhilarating. And… necessary.”
I nod, understanding exactly what they mean. “It’s a gift, that kind of vulnerability,” I say, my voice low. “To be seen, truly seen, and to be accepted in that. To be wanted in that.” I bring their hand to my lips again, pressing a lingering kiss to their knuckles. “Thank you for that gift, baby. For trusting me with that part of you.”
Morgan’s eyes shine with unshed tears. “Always, Ri,” they whisper. “I’ll always trust you with all of me.”
We sit there for a long moment, just looking at each other, the weight of the moment settling over us. It’s heavy, but not oppressive. It’s the weight of truth, of connection, of love.
Finally, Morgan breaks the silence. “Can we… can we go sit in the living room?” they ask, their voice a little rough. “I just… I want to be close to you right now.”
“Of course, baby,” I say immediately, standing up. I pull them to their feet, wrapping an arm around their waist. “Come on. Let’s go cuddle.”
We make our way into the living room, settling onto the couch. I pull Morgan into my lap, wrapping my arms around them. They curl into me, their head resting on my shoulder, their face buried in my neck. I hold them close, one hand stroking up and down their back, the other playing with the ends of their hair.
We sit like that for a long time, just breathing together, being together. The sun streams through the window, warm and bright. The house is quiet, peaceful. It’s perfect.
After a while, Morgan stirs, lifting their head. Their eyes are clear now, soft and warm. “Thank you, Ri,” they say, their voice a little rough. “For last night. For this morning. For… for everything.”
I smile, brushing a lock of hair behind their ear. “You never have to thank me for loving you, baby,” I say, my voice just as warm. “It’s my pleasure. My privilege.”
Morgan smiles, leaning in to press a soft kiss to my lips. “I love you,” they murmur against my mouth.
“I love you too,” I whisper back, deepening the kiss. It’s slow, sweet, unhurried. A kiss of comfort, of connection, of home.
We kiss for a long moment, just savoring the taste of each other, the feel of each other. When we finally break apart, we’re both a little breathless. Morgan’s eyes are dark, their lips a little swollen. “Ri?” they say, their voice a little husky.
“Hm?” I hum, my hands still stroking over their back.
“Can we…” they trail off, a blush rising on their cheeks. “Can we maybe… take this upstairs?” They meet my gaze, their eyes a little uncertain. “I know we said we’d take it easy today, and I’m not saying we have to do anything intense, but… I just really want to be close to you right now. Skin to skin. You know?”
I smile, my heart warming at the vulnerability in their voice, the trust in their eyes. “I know exactly what you mean, baby,” I say, my voice soft. “And I think that’s a perfect idea.”
I stand up, lifting them easily in my arms. Morgan laughs, startled, wrapping their arms around my neck. “Ri!” they protest, but there’s no heat in it. “I can walk, you know.”
“I know,” I say, already heading for the stairs. “But where’s the fun in that?”
Morgan just shakes their head, but they’re smiling. “You’re such a dork,” they say fondly, leaning in to press a kiss to my jaw.
“Your dork,” I correct, tightening my hold on them.
“Always,” they agree, nestling closer.
I carry them up the stairs, shouldering open the door to our bedroom. I lay them down on the bed, coming down over them, my body covering theirs. Morgan wraps their arms around me, pulling me close. “Love you, Ri,” they murmur, their voice soft.
“Love you too, baby,” I whisper back, pressing a kiss to their forehead, their nose, their lips. “So much.”
We make love slowly, tenderly, the afternoon sun streaming through the window. It’s unhurried, exploratory, a gentle relearning of each other after the intensity of last night. I map Morgan’s body with my hands, my lips, worshipping every inch of their skin. They arch into my touch, their breath catching, their hands fisting in my hair.
“Ri,” they gasp, their voice rough with need. “Please…”
“Shh, baby,” I murmur, kissing my way down their throat. “I’ve got you. Just let me take care of you.”
