Vineyard Reverie
I know that we still have a long way to go, that there are still hurt feelings and old wounds to navigate. But for the first time in a long time, I feel hopeful. I feel like maybe, just maybe, we have a chance at a future together.
The night of the charity event arrives in a flurry of activity. The vineyard is transformed, the long tables set among the vines just as Robyn wanted, strings of lights twinkling overhead like stars. I watch her move through the crowd, her smile bright and genuine as she greets the guests, her laughter ringing out like music in the warm evening air.
I can’t take my eyes off her. She’s wearing a simple black dress that hugs her curves in all the right places, her hair caught up in a loose knot at the nape of her neck. Every time she looks at me, I feel a shock shoot through my veins.
As the night wears on, the guests begin to trickle out, their voices fading into the distance. By the time the last car pulls away, the vineyard is quiet and still, the only sound the gentle rustle of the leaves in the breeze.
I find Robyn on the porch of the main house, a glass of wine in her hand. She’s looking out over the vines, her expression thoughtful and calm.
“Hey,” I say softly, my voice low in the stillness.
She turns to me, a smile touching her lips. “Hey yourself.”
I step closer, my eyes never leaving hers. “You did an amazing job tonight,” I say, my voice warm. “The event was perfect.”
She shrugs, her eyes sparkling. “We did it together,” she says, her voice soft.
I nod, my pulse racing. “We make a good team,” I say, my voice rough.
She sets her glass down on the railing, her eyes never leaving mine. “We always did,” she whispers.
I reach out and tuck a stray lock of hair behind her ear, my fingertips brushing her skin. She leans into my touch, her eyes fluttering closed.
“Robyn,” I say, my voice strained with feeling.
She opens her eyes, her gaze meeting mine. “Yes?”
I swallow hard, my heart racing. “I want you,” I say, my voice low and rough. “I want you so much it hurts.”
Her breath hitches, her eyes widening. “Brendan,” she whispers.
I pull her towards me, my arms wrapping around her waist. She melts into me, her body pressing against mine, her hands splaying across my chest.
“I’ve missed you,” I murmur, my mouth near her ear. “I’ve missed this.”
She shivers, her fingers curling into the fabric of my shirt. “I’ve missed you too,” she breathes.
I capture her lips with mine, my kiss hungry and urgent. She opens for me instantly, her tongue sliding against mine, her hands tangling in my hair. I pull her closer, my hands roaming her back, her waist, her hips.
We stumble backwards into the house, our lips never parting, our hands never still. I kick the door shut behind us, my fingers fumbling with the zipper of her dress. She pushes my jacket off my shoulders, her hands tugging at my shirt.
“Upstairs,” she gasps, her lips trailing kisses along my jaw. “Now.”
I lift her into my arms, carrying her up the stairs and into the bedroom. I set her down on the bed, my body covering hers, my lips claiming hers once more.
We undress each other slowly, our hands trembling, our breath mingling. I kiss every inch of skin I reveal, my lips following the curve of her collarbone, the swell of her breast, the flat plane of her stomach.
“Brendan,” she moans, her back arching off the bed. “Please.”
I settle between her thighs, my hardness pressing against her heat. “Robyn,” I breathe, my voice rough. “I need you.”
She wraps her legs around my waist, her hands pulling me closer. “I need you too,” she whispers. “Now, Brendan. Please.”
I push inside her in one slow, deep thrust, my breath hitching. She feels incredible, hot and tight and perfect. I move inside her slowly at first, savoring the feel of her body around mine.
But it’s not enough. I need more. I need to feel her shatter around me, to hear her cry out my name.
I pick up the pace, my hips snapping against hers, my thrusts deep and hard. She meets me stroke for stroke, her nails raking down my back, her moans filling the air.
“Brendan,” she gasps, her eyes wide and dark. “I’m close. So close.”
I reach between us, my thumb finding the bundle of nerves at the top of her sex. I circle it slowly, teasingly, until she’s writhing beneath me, her breath coming in short, sharp pants.
“Come for me, baby,” I murmur, my voice low and rough. “Come for me now.”
She cries out, her body tightening around mine, her nails digging into my shoulders. I feel her climax wash over her, her body shaking, her breath hitching.
I follow her over the edge, my own release crashing through me like a storm surge. I bury my face in her neck, my breath harsh and ragged, my body trembling with the force of my orgasm.
We stay like that for a long moment, our bodies tangled together, our breath mingling. I can feel the beat of her heart against my chest, the warmth of her skin against mine.
“I love you, Robyn,” I whisper, my voice rough. “I never stopped loving you.”
She smiles, her eyes soft and warm. “I love you too, Brendan,” she murmurs. “I always have. I always will.”
I roll onto my side, pulling her with me, my arms wrapping around her waist. She rests her head on my chest, her fingers drawing patterns on my skin.
We lie like that for hours, talking and laughing, our bodies woven together. We make love again, slowly this time, savoring each touch, each kiss.
As the first light of dawn begins to streak the sky, I pull her closer, my lips at her temple. “Thank you,” I whisper. “Thank you for giving me another chance.”
She smiles, her eyes fluttering closed. “Thank you for coming back,” she murmurs. “Thank you for loving me.”
I hold her close, my heart full to bursting. For the first time in a long time, I feel like I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be. With Robyn, in the place that we both love, ready to face whatever the future may bring, together.
The morning sun streams through the window, casting light across the room. I watch the light play across Robyn’s skin, following the curve of her shoulder, the line of her jaw. She’s still asleep, her breathing slow and even, her face relaxed and peaceful.
I can’t help but smile as I look at her. She’s still the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen, even after all these years. Even after everything we’ve been through.
She stirs, her eyes fluttering open. For a moment, she looks confused, her eyebrows drawn together as she takes in her surroundings. Then her gaze lands on me, and a smile spreads across her face.
“Good morning,” she murmurs, her voice husky with sleep.
“Good morning,” I say, my own voice rough. “Did you sleep well?”
She nods, stretching languidly, the sheet slipping down to reveal the curve of her breast. “Better than I have in a long time,” she says, her eyes sparkling.
I lean in and kiss her softly, my lips meeting hers in a gentle caress. She sighs against my mouth, her arms around my neck.
We make love again, slowly and tenderly, our bodies moving together in perfect harmony. There’s no urgency this time, no desperate need. Just a deep, abiding love, a connection that runs deeper than words.
Afterwards, we lie together in silence, our bodies entwined, our hearts beating together. I trace patterns on her skin, my fingertips skimming over her hip, her ribcage, the swell of her breast.
“Brendan,” she says at last, her voice soft. “We need to talk.”
I nod, my hand stilling on her skin. “I know.”
She sits up, pulling the sheet with her, covering her breasts. “About what happened last night,” she begins, her voice hesitant. “About us.”
I sit up too, leaning back against the headboard. “I know,” I say again. “We have a lot to figure out.”
She nods, her eyes on the sheet, her fingers working in the fabric. “I love you, Brendan,” she says at last, her voice quiet. “I always have. But I’m scared.”
I reach out and take her hand, my thumb stroking her knuckles. “Scared of what?”
She looks up at me, her eyes wide and vulnerable. “Of getting hurt again,” she says, her voice raw. “Of you leaving again.”
I squeeze her hand, my heart clenching in my chest. “I’m not going anywhere, Robyn,” I say, my voice firm. “I promise you that.”
