Rinkside Reverie
“It was what it was.” Rahul forced a grin, the expression feeling brittle on his face. “Made me tough, anyway.”
Kiran made a low sound, almost a hum. “There’s more to strength than being hard, Rahul.”
The sound of his name on Kiran’s lips sent a shiver down Rahul’s spine. He met Kiran’s gaze, his breath hitching at the intensity he saw there. “Is that what you think I am? Hard?”
Kiran’s eyes were dark, unreadable. “I think you’re a lot of things, Rahul Rossi. Hard is just one of them.”
The words lingered, charged with meaning. Rahul’s pulse quickened, his skin prickling with awareness. He wanted to cross the room, to close the distance between them, to lose himself in Kiran’s touch.
But Kiran looked away first, his eyes shifting to the window. The moon was high in the sky, a silver disc against the black velvet of night. “We should get some sleep. Big day tomorrow.”
Rahul flopped onto his back, his arm thrown over his eyes. Sleep felt like a distant country, inaccessible and remote. His body still hummed with the memory of Kiran’s kiss, his mind racing with the implications of what had happened between them.
He must have dozed eventually, because he woke to the sound of Kiran’s quiet breathing, the steady rhythm of it a counterpoint to the frantic pace of Rahul’s own heart. The room was still bathed in lamplight, the shadows long and soft.
Rahul turned his head, his gaze finding Kiran’s face. Kiran was asleep, his features relaxed, the lines of his face softened by slumber. He looked younger, more vulnerable, his usual guardedness stripped away by unconsciousness.
Rahul watched him for a long moment, his chest tight with an emotion he couldn’t name. He wanted to reach out, to trace the line of Kiran’s jaw, to feel the warmth of his skin beneath his fingertips. But he held himself back, content— for now— to drink in the sight of him.
As he drifted back to sleep, Rahul’s mind replayed images— the fierce intensity of Kiran’s gaze, the searing heat of his kiss, the quiet closeness of this shared moment in the lamplit dark. He fell asleep with a smile on his face, the promise of tomorrow a sweet ache in his chest.
The moon watched their return to Minnesota, its silver light stretching across the frozen lake. Rahul’s skates carved smooth arcs across the ice, his movements fluid and sure. Kiran watched from the shoreline, his hands buried deep in the pockets of his wool coat.
“It’s colder than a witch’s tit out here,” Rahul complained, his breath forming white clouds in the frigid air. He executed a sharp stop, spraying a plume of ice crystals into the air.
Kiran’s smile was faint, his eyes warm with amusement. “You’re the one who wanted to skate at midnight.”
Rahul’s grin was quick, flashing in the moonlight. “Yeah, but I figured you’d keep me warm.”
Kiran’s gaze darkened, his eyes dropping to Rahul’s mouth. “Is that right?”
Rahul skated closer, his blades whispering against the ice. He stopped just inches from Kiran, his eyes focused on the other man’s face. “That’s right,” he murmured, his voice low and rough.
Kiran’s hands came up, his fingers catching in the wool of Rahul’s scarf. He tugged, pulling Rahul closer until their chests pressed together, their breath mingling. “You’re playing a dangerous game, Rossi,” he whispered, his lips grazing Rahul’s.
Rahul’s laugh was breathless, his hands finding their way to Kiran’s hips. “Maybe I like dangerous games.”
Kiran’s mouth came down on his, hard and demanding. Rahul opened for him, his tongue sliding against Kiran’s, his fingers pressing into the thick fabric of Kiran’s coat. The kiss was all heat and desperation, a clash of teeth and tongue that left them both panting.
When they broke apart, Kiran’s eyes were dark with want, his lips red and full. “Come inside,” he said, his voice low and urgent. “Before we freeze to death.”
Rahul followed him up the path to the lake house, his skates slung over his shoulder. The house was small but cozy, the interior welcoming and warm. Kiran led him through the living room, past the stone fireplace that dominated one wall, and into the bedroom.
The room was lit by a single candle, its flame casting flickering shadows across the walls. The bed was wide and inviting, the sheets a deep, rich blue. Rahul dropped his skates by the door, his coat and scarf following close behind.
Kiran watched him from the foot of the bed, his eyes hot and hungry. He shrugged out of his own coat, his sweater following close behind. Rahul’s breath caught at the sight of him, all lean muscle and golden skin.
Kiran’s hands went to the hem of Rahul’s sweater, his fingers grazing the sensitive skin of his stomach. “Lift,” he murmured, his voice a low rumble.
Rahul complied, his arms going up to allow Kiran to pull the sweater over his head. His t-shirt followed, leaving his chest bare to the cool air of the room. Kiran’s eyes roamed over him, taking in the defined lines of his chest, the trail of dark hair that disappeared into the waistband of his jeans.
“You’re beautiful,” Kiran breathed, his hands coming up to frame Rahul’s face. He kissed him again, his mouth moving slow and sweet against Rahul’s.
Rahul’s hands went to Kiran’s belt, his fingers making quick work of the buckle. He tugged Kiran’s jeans down his hips, his boxer briefs following close behind. Kiran stepped out of them, his body bare and beautiful in the candlelight.
Rahul’s breath hitched, his eyes drinking in the sight of him. Kiran was all long lines and lean muscle, his skin golden in the flickering light. Rahul reached for him, his hands sliding over Kiran’s hips to cup his ass.
Kiran’s breath caught, his eyes fluttering closed. Rahul took advantage, his mouth finding the sensitive skin of Kiran’s neck. He sucked and licked, his teeth grazing the tender flesh.
Kiran’s hands fisted in Rahul’s hair, his hips rocking forward to press his erection against Rahul’s stomach. Rahul moaned, his own arousal pulsing behind the fly of his jeans.
“Bed,” Kiran gasped, his voice urgent with desire. “Now.”
Rahul nodded, his hands going to the button of his jeans. He shoved them down his hips, his boxer briefs following close behind. Kiran watched him, his eyes dark and intense.
Rahul crawled onto the bed, his body stretching out across the cool sheets. Kiran followed, his weight settling over Rahul’s, his mouth finding Rahul’s in a deep kiss.
Their bodies moved together, all slick skin and desperate touches. Kiran’s hands were everywhere, tracing the lines of Rahul’s chest, the curve of his hip, the sensitive skin of his inner thigh. Rahul arched into his touch, his own hands roaming over Kiran’s back, his shoulders, his ass.
Kiran’s mouth moved down Rahul’s neck, his teeth grazing the sensitive skin. Rahul gasped, his fingers pressing into Kiran’s shoulders. Kiran smiled against his skin, his tongue soothing the sting.
“Please,” Rahul gasped, his hips rocking up to meet Kiran’s. “I need you.”
Kiran’s hand found its way between their bodies, his fingers wrapping around Rahul’s erection. He stroked him slow and easy, his thumb grazing the sensitive head.
Rahul’s breath caught, his hips bucking into Kiran’s touch. “Kiran,” he gasped, his voice urgent with desire.
Kiran’s mouth found his again, his tongue sliding deep. Rahul opened for him, his hands fisting in the sheets. Kiran’s hand moved faster, his strokes growing more urgent.
Rahul’s release built at the base of his spine, his balls drawing up tight. He came with a cry, his hips bucking against Kiran’s hand, his release spilling over Kiran’s fingers.
Kiran kissed him through it, his mouth moving slow and sweet against Rahul’s. When Rahul’s tremors subsided, Kiran pulled back, his eyes dark and intense.
“Fuck,” Rahul breathed, his chest heaving. “That was—”
“Shh,” Kiran murmured, his fingers grazing Rahul’s lips. “I’ve got you.”
Rahul’s eyes fluttered closed, his body sinking into the soft mattress. Kiran’s weight was a comforting pressure against his chest, his breath warming Rahul’s neck.
They lay like that for a long moment, their bodies entwined, their breath mingling. The candlelight flickered across their skin, casting them in a warm, golden glow.
Rahul’s eyes opened, his gaze finding Kiran’s. Kiran was watching him, his expression soft and tender. Rahul’s chest tightened, emotion washing over him.
“Stay,” he whispered, his voice rough with sleep. “Just for a little while.”
Kiran’s smile was soft, his fingers grazing Rahul’s cheek. “I’m not going anywhere.”
The Frost’s playoff run was a pressure cooker, each game a high-wire act that left the whole team frayed at the edges. Rahul and Kiran moved through the days like ghosts, their secret a living thing between them. In the locker room, the tension was a physical presence, thick enough to choke on.
