The Amber Rule

Loving WivesComplete

“Same for me.” Christy tilted her face up to his, her green eyes serious. “This only works if we’re both all in. If we’re both getting what we need.”

They agreed to use the amber pendant as a signal—a way for Christy to let Daniel know when she was thinking about the fantasy, when she was feeling curious or aroused. She wore it constantly in the days that followed, the honey-colored stone a silent reminder of their shared secret. It was a comfort to Daniel, a tangible symbol of their commitment to each other even as they explored new territory.

Still, doubts nagged at him. What if Christy liked it too much? What if she developed feelings for someone else? What if he couldn’t handle watching her with another man?

One night, as they lay in bed together, Daniel voiced his fears. “I keep imagining you with Ralph,” he admitted, his voice low in the dark. “I keep picturing his hands on you, his mouth on yours.” He swallowed hard, his throat tight. “It makes me hard, but it also makes me want to punch something.”

Christy was quiet for a long moment, her fingers tracing idle patterns on his chest. “It’s just a fantasy, Daniel,” she finally said. “Ralph is… safe. Familiar. But he’s not you. He never could be.” She propped herself up on one elbow, her green eyes finding his in the dim light. “You’re the one I come home to. You’re the one I love.”

He pulled her close, his arms tightening around her. “I know. But I need to hear it sometimes. I need to know I’m not losing you.”

“You’re not,” she whispered, her lips brushing his. “You never will.”

They made love that night, slow and sweet, the amber pendant warm between them. Afterward, as Christy slept in his arms, Daniel stared up at the ceiling, his mind racing. He thought about the rules they’d set, the boundaries they’d agreed on. He thought about the pendant, a symbol of their love and trust. And he thought about Ralph, with his easy charm and dark good looks.

Could he really watch Christy with another man? Could he handle seeing her come undone under someone else’s touch?

He didn’t know. But as he drifted off to sleep, the amber pendant a comforting weight against his chest, he knew he was willing to try. For Christy. For their marriage. For the chance to explore something new, together.

The next morning, they started making plans. They agreed to take things slow, to start with a simple conversation at an upcoming country club event. Ralph would be there, and Christy would wear the pendant as a signal to Daniel that she was open to exploring the fantasy.

“It’s just a conversation,” Christy said, her green eyes bright with anticipation. “We’ll see how it feels. If it feels right, we’ll take the next step.”

Daniel nodded, his heart pounding in his chest. “And if it doesn’t, we stop. No questions asked.”

“Yes.” Christy leaned in, her lips brushing his. “Thank you, Daniel. For being open to this. For trusting me.”

He kissed her back, his arms tightening around her. “I love you, Ev. More than anything.”

“I love you too.” She smiled against his lips, the amber pendant glowing between them. “Now let’s go see where this takes us.”

They spent the next few days drafting their rules, the amber pendant a constant presence between them. They sat at the kitchen table, laptops open, notebooks filled with their messy scrawls. Daniel had insisted on writing everything down—every boundary, every safe word, every communication protocol. “We need to be clear,” he’d said, his voice firm. “No room for misinterpretation.”

Christy agreed, though her hand shook slightly as she wrote. It was one thing to fantasize about being with another man, to imagine the heat of Ralph’s touch. It was another to see it laid out in black and white, a contract of sorts for their marriage. But she knew Daniel needed this structure, this sense of control. It was his way of wrapping his head around the experiment, of making it feel manageable.

“Rule number one,” Daniel said, his fingers tapping against the keyboard. “Our marriage comes first. Always. No exceptions.”

Christy nodded, scribbling the words in her notebook. “That goes without saying, but I’m glad you said it.”

“Rule number two.” Daniel paused, his blue eyes flicking to hers. “No secrets. We tell each other everything, even if it’s uncomfortable. Even if we think the other person doesn’t want to hear it.”

“Agreed.” Christy underlined the word on her notepad. “Honesty is key.”

They went on like that for hours, the rules growing in number and specificity. No sleepovers with other partners. No unprotected sex. No falling in love. The list was long and detailed, a testament to their mutual desire to protect what they had.

“And the pendant,” Christy said, her fingers brushing the amber at her throat. “We use it as a signal. If I’m wearing it, it means I’m open to exploring the fantasy. If I take it off, it means I’m not in the right headspace.”

Daniel nodded, his gaze lingering on the honey-colored stone. “And I’ll use it too. If I’m feeling jealous or unsure, I’ll touch the pendant. Let you know I need a little extra reassurance.”

Christy smiled, reaching across the table to squeeze his hand. “It’s perfect. A way for us to stay connected, even when things get… complicated.”

They agreed on safe words next—“amber” for slow down, “stop” for cease all activity immediately. “No explanations needed,” Daniel said, his voice serious. “If one of us says the word, everything halts. No questions asked.”

Christy nodded, jotting the words down in her notebook. “And we check in with each other constantly. Before, during, after. We talk about how we’re feeling, what’s working, what’s not.”

“Yes.” Daniel leaned back in his chair, his eyes scanning the list they’d created. “This feels… manageable. Like we’ve thought of everything.”

Christy reached for his hand, lacing their fingers together. “We’ll take it one day at a time. One step at a time. And if it ever feels like too much, we stop. No regrets, no blame.”

Daniel brought her hand to his lips, pressing a kiss to her knuckles. “Agreed.” He glanced at the clock on the wall, his eyebrows lifting in surprise. “It’s late. We should get to bed.”

Christy stood, stretching her arms above her head. “I’m exhausted. Who knew negotiating an open marriage could be so tiring?”

Daniel chuckled, following her up the stairs. “Just wait until we actually start putting these rules into practice.”

In their bedroom, they undressed slowly, the amber pendant glinting in the lamplight. Christy laid it carefully on the nightstand, the stone warm from her skin. They slipped beneath the covers, their bodies finding each other in the dark.

“Are you nervous?” Daniel asked, his voice low as he pulled her close. “About the country club event?”

“A little,” Christy admitted, her head resting on his chest. “But mostly excited. It feels like we’re on the cusp of something… big. Something new.”

Daniel’s hand traced lazy circles on her back, his touch soothing and familiar. “Just remember the rules. Our marriage comes first. No secrets. And if anything feels off, we use the safe words.”

“I will.” Christy tilted her face up to his, her lips brushing his jaw. “I love you, Daniel. No matter what happens, that will never change.”

“I know.” He kissed her then, slow and deep, his tongue sweeping into her mouth. The pendant lay on the nightstand beside them, a silent reminder of the journey they were about to embark on. When Daniel finally broke the kiss, they were both breathing hard, their bodies flush against each other. “Get some sleep,” he murmured, his lips brushing her forehead. “We’ve got a big day ahead of us.”

Christy nodded, nestling closer into his embrace. As she drifted off to sleep, her mind was filled with images of Ralph, of the country club, of the amber pendant glowing against her skin. For the first time in a long time, she felt truly alive, truly seen. And with Daniel by her side, she knew they could handle anything.

The country club event was in full swing by the time Christy and Daniel arrived, the air thick with the scent of expensive perfume and freshly cut grass. Christy wore a sleek black dress that hugged her curves, the amber pendant glinting at her throat. Daniel looked handsome in his tailored suit, his salt-and-pepper hair combed back from his forehead, but his blue eyes were sharp behind his glasses, watchful and alert.

“You ready for this?” he murmured, his hand resting on the small of her back as they made their way through the crowd.
