The Layover
“Even when the ride involves a canceled flight and a night spent in an airport lounge?” Elara asked, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
“Especially then,” Leo affirmed, his expression turning serious. “After all, if it weren’t for this little detour, we might never have met.”
Elara’s heart skipped a beat at the implication of his words, at the intensity of his gaze. “You’re right,” she said softly, her eyes never leaving his. “Meeting you has been the silver lining in this whole mess.”
Leo’s smile was slow and sweet, a promise of things to come. “I’m glad,” he murmured, his voice low and intimate. “Because meeting you has been the best thing to happen to me in a long time.”
The air between them seemed to thicken, the tension coiling and tightening until Elara could scarcely breathe. She could feel the heat of his body across the table, could see the rapid rise and fall of his chest as he leaned towards her, his eyes dark with desire.
And then, just when she thought she might combust from the sheer force of their attraction, Leo leaned back in his chair, a mischievous grin playing at the corners of his mouth.
“You know,” he began, his tone casual and light, “I’ve always wondered what it would be like to kiss a brilliant historian.”
Elara’s breath hitched in her throat, her pulse racing at his bold declaration. “Is that so?” she managed, her voice barely above a whisper.
“It is,” Leo confirmed, his eyes locked on hers. “But I suppose I’ll never know, will I?”
Elara’s heart pounded in her chest, her mind racing with the implications of his words. She knew that she was standing on the precipice of something, that one small step could change everything.
And then, before she could second-guess herself, before she could let her fears and her doubts get the better of her, she leaned forward, closing the distance between them.
“Maybe not,” she murmured, her lips just inches from his. “But there’s only one way to find out.”
Leo’s eyes widened in surprise as Elara leaned in, a flicker of uncertainty crossing his face for the briefest of moments. But then his lips were on hers, soft and warm and achingly sweet, and Elara knew that she was lost.
The kiss was slow and tentative at first, a gentle exploration of lips and tongues that sent shivers down Elara’s spine. She could taste the faint hint of coffee on his breath, could feel the scrape of his stubble against her chin as he deepened the kiss, his hands coming up to cradle her face.
Elara melted into him, her body responding to his touch with a fervor that surprised her. She’d been with men before, of course, but never had a simple kiss set her blood on fire like this. Never had she felt so utterly consumed by desire, so desperate for more.
“Elara,” Leo breathed against her lips, his voice rough with want. “God, you have no idea how long I’ve wanted to do that.”
Elara’s heart skipped a beat at his words, at the raw honesty in his tone. “How long?” she teased, her fingers tangling in the soft hair at the nape of his neck.
“Since the moment I saw you,” Leo confessed, his thumb tracing the curve of her jaw. “When you looked at me with those big, beautiful eyes of yours, I knew I was a goner.”
Elara’s breath hitched in her throat, her pulse racing at his bold declaration. “I felt it too,” she whispered, her cheeks flushing with heat. “This…connection between us. I’ve never experienced anything like it before.”
“Neither have I,” Leo murmured, his lips brushing against the shell of her ear. “It’s like we’re two pieces of a puzzle, meant to fit together in all the right ways.”
Elara shivered at the touch, her body arching into his of its own accord. “Leo,” she breathed, her voice heavy with need. “What are we doing?”
Leo pulled back slightly, his blue eyes searching hers. “What do you want to do, Elara?” he asked softly, his gaze filled with a tenderness that made her heart ache. “Because I’ll be honest with you, I want nothing more than to take you in my arms and make love to you until the sun comes up. But if you’re not ready, if you’re not sure…”
Elara silenced him with a kiss, pouring all of her pent-up desire and longing into the press of her lips against his. “I’m sure,” she whispered when they finally came up for air, her voice trembling with emotion. “I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life.”
Leo’s eyes darkened with desire, his grip on her tightening as he pulled her close. “Thank god,” he groaned, his lips trailing a path of fire down the column of her throat. “Because I don’t think I could have survived another moment without touching you like this.”
They stumbled to their feet, their hands roaming over each other’s bodies with a desperation that bordered on madness. Elara gasped as Leo’s fingers skimmed the curve of her breast, her nipples hardening beneath the thin fabric of her blouse.
“Leo,” she whimpered, her head falling back to give him better access. “Please…”
“Shh,” Leo soothed, his lips brushing against her pulse point. “I’ve got you, love. I’ll take care of you.”
He led her to a quiet corner of the lounge, hidden behind a bank of vending machines and a row of potted plants. It wasn’t exactly the Ritz, but in that moment, Elara wouldn’t have cared if they were in a dank alleyway. All that mattered was the feel of Leo’s body against hers, the heat of his skin beneath her wandering hands.
They sank to the floor, their limbs tangling together as they lost themselves in a frenzy of kisses and caresses. Leo’s hands were everywhere, skimming down her sides, cupping her bottom, sliding up her skirt to tease the sensitive skin of her inner thighs.
Elara moaned softly, her fingers fumbling with the buttons of his shirt. She needed to feel him, to taste him, to lose herself in the warmth of his embrace.
“Elara,” Leo whispered reverently as her hands finally found their way to his bare chest, her fingers tracing the contours of his muscles. “You’re so beautiful, so perfect.”
Elara’s heart swelled at his words, at the awe in his voice. “So are you,” she breathed, her lips pressing against his collarbone. “I’ve never wanted anyone the way I want you.”
Leo’s breath hitched at her words, his hands trembling as they slid up her thighs, pushing her skirt up around her waist. “I need to see you,” he murmured, his fingers hooking in the waistband of her tights. “All of you.”
Elara nodded, lifting her hips to allow him to peel the delicate material down her legs. She shivered as the cool air of the lounge hit her bare skin, her body throbbing with anticipation.
“So fucking beautiful,” Leo groaned, his eyes drinking in the sight of her, spread out before him like an offering. “I could look at you forever and never get enough.”
Elara’s cheeks flushed with heat, her body squirming under the intensity of his gaze. “Leo, please,” she whimpered, her hands reaching for him. “I need you.”
Leo’s control seemed to snap at her words, his mouth coming down on hers in a searing kiss that stole the breath from her lungs. His hands were everywhere, stroking and teasing, driving her wild with want.
Elara arched into him, her fingers scrabbling at his belt, desperate to feel him inside her. “Please,” she panted, her hips rocking against his hardness. “I can’t wait anymore.”
Leo’s eyes flashed with a primal hunger, his hands making quick work of his belt and zipper. “Hold on to me,” he commanded, his voice rough with desire. “I’ve got you.”
Elara wrapped her arms around his neck, her legs coming up to wrap around his waist as he positioned himself at her entrance. She gasped as she felt the blunt head of his arousal nudge against her, her body clenching in anticipation.
“Look at me,” Leo whispered, his forehead pressed against hers. “I want to see your eyes when I make you mine.”
Elara’s breath caught in her throat, her eyes locking with his as he slowly pushed forward, filling her inch by glorious inch. She moaned at the exquisite stretch, her body trembling as he seated himself to the hilt.
“Leo,” she breathed, her nails digging into his shoulders. “You feel so good.”
Leo’s breath hissed out between clenched teeth, his hips flexing as he began to move. “Elara,” he groaned, his voice tight with restraint. “You’re so tight, so perfect. I’m not going to last long.”
“Don’t hold back,” Elara urged, her hips rising to meet his thrusts. “I need to feel you, all of you.”
