The Sea Prince's Bargain

Aris hesitates, his gaze searching mine. “Your magic is strong, Kael,” he says at last, his voice a low murmur that vibrates in my bones. “Stronger than I thought. I think, together, we might be able to shield the castle from the worst of it.”

I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what’s to come. “Tell me what I need to do.”

We swim out of the grotto, Finn darting ahead of us, his small body cutting through the water with ease. The corridors of the castle are alive with activity, fae rushing back and forth, their expressions tense, their movements hurried.

Aris leads me to the heart of the castle, a vast, open chamber where a group of fae are already gathered, their hands outstretched, their voices raised in a low chant. The air hums with magic, a palpable energy that sets the hairs on my arms on end.

“Join with them,” Aris says, his voice a low command. “Lend your magic to theirs. Focus on the wards, on the boundaries of the castle. Picture them in your mind, strong and unbreakable.”

I nod, closing my eyes, reaching for the well of magic inside me. It rises to my call, a warm, tingling energy that flows through my veins, pooling in my fingertips. I join my voice to the chant, my magic weaving with that of the other fae, strengthening the wards, reinforcing the boundaries.

For a time, it seems to work. The storm rages outside, the lightning flashing, the thunder booming, but the castle remains untouched, a bubble of calm in the midst of the chaos.

But then, without warning, the magic surges, a wild, untamed force that threatens to overwhelm me. I gasp, my eyes flying open, my hands clenching into fists at my sides.

“Kael?” Aris’s voice is sharp with concern, his hand closing around my arm, steadying me. “What is it? What’s wrong?”

“I don’t know,” I grit out, my voice tight with strain. “The magic... it’s too much. I can’t control it.”

Aris’s eyes widen, his free hand drifting to the scar on his chest. “Don’t fight it,” he says, his voice a low murmur that vibrates in my bones. “Let it flow through you. Let it become a part of you.”

I shake my head, my breath coming in short, sharp gasps. “I can’t,” I say, my voice hoarse with fear. “It’s too strong. It’s going to tear me apart.”

“Listen to me, Kael,” Aris says, his voice a low command that cuts through the chaos in my mind. “You are stronger than you know. Your magic is a part of you, as much as your scars, as much as your heart. Embrace it. Accept it. Let it guide you.”

I close my eyes again, my body trembling, my magic raging inside me like a storm at sea. I think of Aris’s words, of the trust I’ve placed in him, the bond we share. I think of Lirelle, of the promise I made to save her, no matter the cost.

And then, slowly, painfully, I let go. I stop fighting the magic, stop trying to control it. I let it flow through me, let it fill me, let it become a part of me.

For a moment, there is only the magic, a wild, untamed force that threatens to consume me. But then, like a dam breaking, it surges out of me, a torrent of power that joins with the magic of the other fae, strengthening the wards, reinforcing the boundaries.

I gasp, my eyes flying open, my body sagging against Aris’s side. He holds me upright, his arm tight around my waist, his own magic flowing into me, supporting me, guiding me.

“You did it, Kael,” he murmurs, his voice a low caress. “You embraced your magic. You accepted it.”

I look up at him, my heart pounding against my ribs, my breath coming in short, sharp gasps. “I couldn’t have done it without you,” I say, my voice hoarse with emotion.

Aris smiles, a rare, genuine smile that lights up his face. “You could have,” he says, his voice a low rummur that vibrates in my bones. “You have a strength inside you, Kael. A power that is all your own.”

He reaches out, his fingers brushing over the scar on my shoulder, and I shiver at the touch, a spark of something hot and wild igniting in my veins. “You are my fated mate, Kael,” he murmurs, his voice a low caress. “Destined to rule beside me. To be my equal, my partner, my love.”

I stare at him, my mind reeling, my heart pounding against my ribs. “What are you saying?” I ask, my voice barely audible above the rush of my pulse.

“I’m saying that I love you, Kael,” Aris says, his gaze locked with mine. “I’m saying that I want you by my side, now and always. I’m saying that I want to build a future with you, a future where our magic and our love are intertwined, where we rule the Sea Court together, as one.”

I close my eyes, my heart swelling with emotion, with a love I never thought I’d feel. “I love you too, Aris,” I say, my voice soft but firm. “I love you with every beat of my heart, every breath in my body.”

Aris leans in, his lips brushing over mine, a soft, sweet kiss that seals our bond, our fate. I kiss him back, my arms wrapping around his neck, my body molding to his, as if we were always meant to fit together this way.

Around us, the storm rages on, the lightning flashing, the thunder booming. But here, in this moment, in Aris’s arms, I feel safe, loved, complete.

I don’t know what the future holds, what challenges we’ll face, what battles we’ll fight. But I know that together, Aris and I can face anything. Our love is a force as powerful as the sea itself, as enduring as the tides.

And with that love, that bond, that magic, we will build a future together, a future where anything is possible.

The moment is shattered by a sudden, violent tremor that shakes the very foundations of the castle. Aris pulls away from me, his eyes wide with alarm, his body tensing for battle.

“What was that?” I ask, my voice tight with fear.

Before Aris can answer, a fae guard swims into the chamber, his face pale, his eyes wide with panic. “My prince,” he gasps, his voice rough with exertion. “We’re under attack. Lord Malakai’s forces have breached the outer wards.”

Aris’s face hardens, his eyes flashing with anger. “Malakai,” he snarls, his voice a low growl that vibrates in my bones. “I should have known he would strike when we were weakest.”

He turns to me, his expression grim. “Kael, I need you to stay here,” he says, his voice a low command. “I need you to be safe.”

I shake my head, my own anger rising to meet his. “No,” I say, my voice firm, unyielding. “I won’t let you face this alone. I won’t let you fight my battles for me.”

Aris opens his mouth to argue, but I cut him off with a slash of my hand. “I am your fated mate, Aris,” I say, my voice low and intense. “I am meant to stand by your side, to fight with you, to defend our home. I won’t be left behind.”

Aris stares at me for a long moment, his expression unreadable. Then, slowly, he nods, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips. “Very well,” he says, his voice a low rumble that vibrates in my bones. “We fight together.”

He takes my hand, his fingers warm and solid against mine, and leads me out of the chamber, back through the winding corridors of the castle. Finn follows close behind, his small body tense with anticipation.

As we swim, Aris fills me in on Lord Malakai, a rival fae lord who has long coveted the power of the Sea Court. “He’s ruthless,” Aris says, his voice a low murmur that vibrates in my bones. “He’ll stop at nothing to get what he wants.”

I nod, my mind racing with strategies, with plans. “We’ll stop him,” I say, my voice firm with conviction. “Together.”

We emerge into the open water just as the first wave of Malakai’s forces strike. They’re a terrifying sight, an army of fae warriors armed with tridents and swords, their eyes glowing with a sickly green light.

Aris raises his hand, his magic surging to his call, and a wall of water rises up before us, blocking the attackers’ path. But it’s not enough. Malakai’s forces are too strong, their magic too powerful.

They break through the wall as if it were made of paper, surging towards us with a roar of triumph. Aris meets them head-on, his trident flashing in the dim light, his magic crackling around him like a storm at sea.
